In an interview with Marvel Artist, Sanford Greene, know best for his work on many of Marvels most popular Spiderman covers, and for being the master mind behind the comic book for famed rapper Method Man, he took some time to describer his passion for art, his work for Sega, and to Draw two of his favorite game characters’. One of which is the mighty Kratos, from God of War III

Question 1.    First I’d like to say thanks for taking the time to share both your art, and your inspiration with us. I also notice that your sketch book Deadlines, issue #3 is available for purchase on you site, and it looks awesome, could you give our readers some back ground on your passion for art, and what inspired you to start you drawing?

Sanford: Wow... well.. to make a long story short, I've always loved drawing. I started out when I was very young. When paper wouldn't work, I would draw on the walls in my bedroom. My mom didn't approve ( of course ), but she did see the potential. So she began to nurture my talent by getting me involved with art related activities, such as school art contest etc.

Question 2: Most artists say you’re living the dream, as a marvel artist what would you say makes marvel stand out from all the other comic book makers?

Sanford: They have awesome characters, nuff said. Most comic artist at some point in their career wants to draw Spiderman!

Question 3:         Many have commented on your work saying you have a revolution art style, and looking at your work, it’s clear that your art has an original look and feel. This is certainly the case with the Wonder Girl statute, and comic book you designed. What would you say contributes to your vision?

Sanford:  Animation may be my greatest influence. I also am a fan of urban influenced subject matters, hip hop, graffiti, at the same time I love a lot of the classic American illustrators, Norman Rockwell, JC Leyendecker to name the more popular ones.

Question 4:            Your art work has caught the eye of artist across many different mediums, most recently the rapper Method Man and yourself collaborated on his Comic Book, titled, Method Man. Can you tell us a little about the story, and theme of the Book?

Sanford:  To keep it simple, if you like hip hop and you like comics, this should be right up your alley. It's a hip hop version of Hell Boy!!

Question 5:          Comic Books heroes seem to be of the most popular breed these days, with both movies and games trying to capitalize on their fame, which do you feel does a better job representing comic books characters?

Sanford:  Hard to say. I've seen comic movies like Batman ( Dark Knight ) do a great job with the movie and the game version wasn't that well done, in my opinion. Then again you get a game like Arkham Asylum and could only hope a movie could be like that! So it's 50 50 to me.

Question  6:       In the world of gamming super heroes are always welcomed, especially with the HD Graphics of the current generation systems. Now that gamming is evolved graphically, what would you say is your system of choice? ( XBox 360 or PS3), and what games are you currently playing?

Sanford: I would agree, Technology has come a long way from where it was 10 years ago, even 2 years ago. Home systems have greater hardware than a lot of home computers!

Question 7:      I noticed in your portfolio you did some worked for SEGA what exactly did you do for them?

Sanford: I worked on SONIC The Hedgehog for a few months. Most of the work I did was for comicbook covers and promotional items.

Question 8:         Though graphics in games are always getting better, many developers have change the art design of their games in mid development, with games like Prince of Persia, and now Borderlands going away from the photo-realistic look, and converting to a more animated comic book art style. Being a big gamer yourself, what direction do you feel is best for the future of gaming, and why?

Sanford:  I believe games should be more animated based because that's why we play these games, we want to escape for reality. Sure it's ok to have things grounded in reality but not photo realistic. I can't stand that look on a game. If I wanted photo realism. I''ll go to a live action movie. e

Well, Sanford I really enjoy your work, and thanks for your time, hopefully well see you online.
