Since the PSPgo launched early this month, the industry and the internet has been buzzing with
blogger’s and news sites, expressing both their love and their contempt for the device. Though we
have yet to post our full review of Sony’s hot new handheld, we discovered something rather cool
about the bite size portable that may get a few more bloggers warming up to the digital device.
It’s no secret that the PSP/PSPgo is a powerful system, and now in its third redesign phase, which also
happens to be the biggest redesign for the PSP. The PSPgo’s lighter , and more portable design will
likely appeal to many, and it could be the change that gets Sony’s portable brand beyond the realm of
retail mediocrity.
The PSPgo is litter with features, and it’s clear that Sony’s “It Only Does Everything” campaign,
directly applies to this new device, and it seems it may apply in some ways maybe even Sony didn’t
expect. Gaming on the go went through a huge evolution when the Playstation Portable was
introduced, and now in a few easy steps your PSPgo could evolve even more, and truly enter the world
of mobility.
The PSPgo like the PSP-2000 & 3000, has Skype built right into the system software, this allows Skype
accessed directly from the Cross Media Bar. To previous PSP owners this is old news, however,
because of this feature the possibility for the PSPgo are far expanded, and could have you in
possession of the hottest mobile device since the iphone, look out iphone its “PSPgo time”. If you’re
not familiar with Skype, it’s a voice over IP service, which allows you to call other Skype users over the
internet. This is done directly from any PC, or in this case any PSP/PSPgo connected to the internet. To
turn your PSP/PSPgo into a cell phone the stander Skype service available with the initial set will
require a small upgrade in service. As it stands, Skype is free, but for this upgrade you will incur a small
cost. Skype offers a number of services, but for this article were going to focus on two; the first is their
service that provides unlimited calls to landlines, and mobile phone numbers. The second is a phone
number plan, which allows you to have your own personal phone number and access to inbound calls.

To access these features, Skype charges a very small fee. To make unlimited calls to land lines, and
mobile phones, there’s a monthly fee of $1.95. To get your own personal phone number, the monthly
fee is a whopping $7.50. With these two services, you could send, and receive calls at any Wi-Fi
Hotspot around town, and if your in one of the Wi-Fi Zones (states/city that have Wi-Fi everywhere),
then that’s all you need, and enjoy your monthly phone bill of only 10.25.
However, if you’re like most of us, than you’re going to need one other device to complete your PSPgo
cell phone. The final peace to this puzzle is one you’ll be required to carry with you when ever you
have your PSPgo. This vital peace is a mobile broadband router. These can be purchased at multiple
wireless carriers, but were going to focus on the one we felt worked the best. Which would be the
Sprint’s MiFi™ 2200 by Novatel Wireless.

Pocket-sized personal hotspot

With this sleek, portable intelligent mobile hotspot, you can extend your Mobile Broadband (EVDO Rev A) experience beyond just your laptop to any Wi-Fi enabled device such as cameras, mobile phones, music players, personal media players and portable game consoles. This Wireless Broadband Router allows 3G speeds were available, and the ability to connect up to five wireless devices (laptops or wireless PC could also share the connection). Anywhere Sprint Nextel service is offered this router will work, and the PSP/ PSPgo is completely compatible with this device. Connecting Sprint’s MiFi™ 2200 Mobile Broadband Router to your PSPgo, not only allows you to send and receive calls through Skype, it also allows you to get into some online gamming from just about anywhere. Sprint’s MiFi™ 2200 is completely mobile, so anywhere Sprint Nextel offers services you’re connected. Also, now that the PSPgo has Bluetooth headset support, the ideal of using your PSPgo as a cell phone is even more conventional than it was with past models.
One thing to keep in mind with the Sprint’s MiFi™ 2200, is it’s month plan requirement, and if you plan on trying this PSPgo - cell phone, we recommend an unlimited plan, as usage for online gaming, and Voice over IP can be costly. Most of Sprints unlimited plans start at 99.99, and as of now Sprint’s MiFi™ 2200 is on sale for 99.99.
How it works:
The Sprint’s MiFi™ 2200 by Novatel Wireless, is a wireless router which provides high speed internet services anywhere Sprint Nextel service is offered. Once your PSPgo is connected, you can browse the web, play games online, make and receive calls through Skype. The only hang up, is you’ll have to carry the MiFi 2200 with you to stay connected. However, the device is fairly small, so it shouldn’t be a problem as long as you have a bag, or a back pocket.
