Final Fantasy Dissidia

Final Fantasy Dissidia not a PSP GO Title? Minimize

With the much anticipated release of the PSP go, many can’t wait to get it on with the Powerful Bite Size Portable. However, the PSP go provides some restrictions for developers that may hinder the release of some of your most sought after PSP games.

It’s no secret that the Playstation Network has a starkly different business model than Microsoft’s Xbox Live. With the biggest difference being that the PSN is free to access and Play, most PSN users boldly express their love for the system. While most Xbox users quickly condemn the PSN as the poor mans Xbox Live. In all honesty the PSN is not free at all, and the fees paid are paid for by some of your favorite game Developers. This same fee driven system could very well delay some of the best game releases for everyone’s favorite new system the PSP go.

According to an SCEE licensing document Sony Charges 0.16 per gigabyte of data downloaded off the Playstation Network. This is largely the reason the PSN doesn’t receive as many Demos, or as much DLC as Xbox Live. There is usually a minimum sales threshed hold attached to these fees as well. These fees apply to Both PS3, and PSP titles as they are distributed across the PLaystation Network. To put this in perspective, on average a PSP game ranges from 400mb to 2 gigabytes, and it’s usually the higher quality games that have the larger file size. These larger games would include most RPG’s and any other highly anticipated game with a high production value; basically all you favorite games. Games like Final Fantasy Crisis Core, and Grand Theft Auto are all fairly large games in relation to other games on PSP.

Final Fantasy Crisis Core’s file size is about 922.64 MIB, and if it were a PSP go title, to download it once would cost Square Enix  just under the 0.16. However, most games don’t sell once, especially a Square Enix RPG. Final Fantasy Crisis Core sold over 2 millions copies on UMD, and if it were a PSP go  title Square Enix would have paid Sony an additional $336,000.00 on top of licensing’s and other fees.

Most developers are going to consider weather the PSP go is a viable business option, and will likely measure the savings of not printing UMD’s and the removal of shipping cost to see if it adds up to the additional PSN downloading cost. It’s also a little concerning for big PSP releases’ like Final Fantasy Dissidia and Assassin Creed Bloodlines, as neither PSP Developers nor Sony have released much in regards to their launch Line Up for the PSP go. Lets Hope for the best, and only time will tell what games will actually be release for the PSP go. Given the fact that Sony has said both the PSP go &  the PSP 3000 would remain on the market together, maybe it’s best not to wait and stay in the disc base game era for now.

In case Squares decides not to release Dissidia on the PSP Go we have a Final fantasy Dissidia bundle to give away. Just comment below and tell us what you think about the PSP go and Sony’s developer fees; the Dissidia Bundle just might be yours.

I'm surprised that this is happening. Not to threaten SCEA and SCEE, I can see that they are trying to keep the revenue where it used to be, but by taking their developers' money that support their system , that's wrong. About the PSP Go, is that people who upgrade from UMD based hardware, PSP (Series 1000,2000,3000) to appreciate only-download hardware. The fact about Sony's developers' fee is that if we keep downloading your demos that you and the others developers developed, the lower your revenue goes down and the more their company gets in shape. It woulda been good if they gave you 3/4 the money back or did something that's worth forgiving. But dont worry, the consumers that supports your game give your whole money back and to say this is that your game, Final Fantasy: Dissidia is a great game and it's one of my favorite games of the year and the others are the saying the same at the PSN Forums over at us.playstation.com/PSP. I will still support you, Square Enix, and Sony and the other developers such as EA,Namco Bandai and alot more that I can't remember and I will still be concentrating on your future developments and I hope you do well on it because your games are over the limits which means they are high quality games...keep doing a great job, Square Enix, now I have to play Final Fantasy: Dissidia trying to collect all the crystals from all the characters of Cosmos, up to Odyssey Destiny V. I'm about to collect your old Final Fantasy for the PSP.

this is a fighting game so it's not as big as most other rpg's, also the savings from publishing and shipping will make any other cost not worth memtoning.

I hope that the bundle hasnt been given away.  I think that Sony's PSN model is going to hinder the success of the PSP Go.  Since it is the first system to fully dive into the digital distribution waters, it is very important that developers and customers are given an opprotuntiy to transition fully.  As of right now, there is little to no incentive to forgo a PSP 2000 or 3000 for a Go.  What Sony needs to do is increase the profits that developers will make off of digitally distributed products, and encourage competitive prices that would give the PSN an edge over physical media.  I really want Sony to succeed with their "experiment", but it seems that they have shot themselves in the foot with this one.  I might decide to get back into the PSP game soon, so depending on how the PSP Go fares I might pick it up in the near future or just get a PSP 3000 bundle (Which could end up for free if you all know what i mean, *wink, wink*)

I'm sure that the 0.16 cost per gig is a good deal considering the price of packaging and shipping a physical copy.
